The work of our hands

The heart of Union's art program is the application of faith and art. We value high artistic tradition, hard work, passion and persistence. Students interact with art professionals and participate in the annual art retreat, service projects and field trips.

Each faculty member is an active artist and has a personal studio space on campus. They value first-hand involvement in the visual arts as a most valuable teaching method.

Facilities

The ample tools and equipment to accommodate student creativity include a state-of-the art computer lab and a large, student-built , oriental wood fire kiln.
Accreditation

The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and actively involved in Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA).
Meet world-class artists

The Union art gallery hosts a wide variety of changing exhibits by world-class artists. The department regularly hosts visiting artists for critiques, lectures and workshops.
Opportunities world-wide

Study affiliations include the University of Georgia (Cortona, Italy) and Union in the Rockies, a bronze casting program in Colorado, as well as Union term courses in Italy and Oxford, England, and summer backpacking in Europe. Students make field trips to locations such as New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas and Nashville and participate in an extensive internship program nationwide.

Chris Nadaskay

University Professor of Art

Christopher Nadaskay is an artist and professor of art at Union, where he has served for 22 years. His mediums have included watercolor, oils, acrylics, mixed media and various sculpture mediums. Working at the moment in mixed media/ceramic wall relief, he is interested in the relationship between technology and the human condition. He has works in several collections, including the Tennessee State Museum.

Haelim Allen

Associate Professor of Art

Haelim Choi Allen immigrated from South Korea to the United States with her parents and two younger sisters. She grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and is a three-time alumna of the University of Maryland at College Park, where she received her M.F.A. in painting and sculpture. Her artwork represents very broad answers to complex questions of identity, and in Art History, her research pertains to women artists and the depiction of women in art from the various eras of visual work.
